Retention

Orthodontic retention is a very important aspect and seperate part of treatment.

RETAINERS are a lifetime journey and is necessary to preserve your knockout smile!

How do we Save You Money in Retention?

Most orthodontic/dental offices charge large fees for a new set of retainers. However, at Kanas Orthodontics, we utilize 3D printing technology to preserve your molds not just physically but digitally.

  • At the end of treatment, you are provided a PHYSICAL set of the molds to keep in case of an emergency lost retainer. As long as YOU did not let your teeth shift with good compliance, we can make a new set on the spot for a low ONE-TIME fee.
  • If you want to avoid an office and have a set mailed, we can re-print the retainers and mail them to you directly for a slightly higher convenience fee.
  • If you have not been wearing retainers as prescribed and a stubborn tooth has moved, we will be able to evaluate low-cost options to get your knockout smile back to where it is supposed to be.

Retainer Home Care

  1. Use a toothbrush to brush retainer(s) with soap and rinse in cold water. Do not use hot water, as this will cause your retainer(s) to warp. Do NOT use toothpaste as this scratches the material and allows more plaque to adhere to the surface (making it more difficult to clean). Use a denture cleaner if necessary once a month.
  2. DO NOT wear your retainer while eating. Always put your retainer in the case when not wearing it to avoid losing it, breaking it, or accidentally throwing it in the trash.
  3. Be careful where you put your retainers, as pets love to chew on them.
  4. Always bring your retainers to each appointment.
  5. ADDITIONAL CHARGES will be made for lost or broken retainers. There is a charge for a retainer replacement.
  • Your retainers are to be worn full time (22hrs/day) until otherwise instructed. If for any reason you find it necessary to stop wearing your retainer, please contact our office. After a period of time, you will be instructed on nighttime wear.

Do wisdom teeth cause my to shift?

Many people believe that impacted wisdom teeth are the major cause in movement of teeth, but this has not been proven in the literature and tooth shifting has been seen to occur in people with no wisdom teeth. However, removal of wisdom teeth or 3rd molars may be recommended due to lack of adequate space in the mouth for normal eruption.
